First-half customs data: exports of two chemical categories maintain strong growth

In the first half of 2026, exports of basic organic chemicals and plastics in primary forms rose 25.1% and 35% year on year, respectively. These figures cover broad commodity categories and do not include the HS code, specification or delivery terms of an individual product.

As of August 11, 2026, first-half 2026 data remain the latest nationwide customs figures that fully confirm growth in these two chemical categories. They show expanding exports but cannot replace an assessment of an individual product, grade or order.

In aggregate, first-half imports totaled RMB 10.74 trillion, up 22.1% year on year, exceeding the 13.4% export growth rate. Both imports and exports are value measures covering raw materials, equipment, intermediate goods and finished products; they do not establish changes in inquiries, freight rates or delivery conditions for individual chemicals.

Broad-category growth and individual transactions

Basic organic chemicals cover a broad product range, with substantial differences in raw-material costs, supply cycles, hazard classifications and transport methods. Plastics in primary forms likewise include many resins and polymers. The release does not separate volume, price, product-mix or destination-mix effects, so the change in category value cannot be reduced to higher demand alone.

At the press conference, customs officials linked the changes to additional external demand and China's industrial support capabilities. The public figures confirm relatively rapid export growth in the relevant broad categories; they do not cover the persistence of that growth, changes in profitability or individual products.

From broad categories to transaction terms

Broad-category data do not replace transaction terms. Hazardous chemicals, custom specifications and goods subject to complex destination requirements also involve product codes, specifications, market-access documents and delivery arrangements.

Step 1Confirm the HS code

First map the statistical category to the specific commodity code and declaration details.

Step 2Check product specifications

Then confirm the CAS number, product designation, grade and quality documents.

Step 3Check market access and documentation

Check SDS, labels and transport documents against destination requirements.

Step 4Confirm actual delivery terms

Check price, freight, payment currency and shipment window separately.

Customs data describe the market background. Order assessments also depend on supplier quotations, available inventory, production schedules, shipping schedules and customer confirmations. The two sets of information have different scopes and are not interchangeable.
